About Break Free,
As a long time reader of mystery and romance novels, I found Break Free to be in the upper echelon. It is a fast-moving and thoughtful story of a young woman who is working hard on her life, only to have it fall apart through no fault of her own. How she rebuilds, and learns about herself and members of her family along the way, is a fascinating story. Her travels range from Colorado to Switzerland with romance and murder pursuing her all the way. This is not a book that you can pick up and put down easily. You will be reading it all the way through in one sitting.

Great reading,
The author fills Break Free with mystery and adventure as her protagonist faces the unpredictability of nature and human nature. Anyone who loves the outdoors and the mountains will appreciate the attention to detail in depicting the settings with accuracy. Probably most of us have something we want to or ought to “break free” from and can relate to the struggles Kathleen goes through. This opened up a whole new world of assumed identities to me that I had never even thought about. It was an intriguing book.

Pulled Me In,
I started reading Break Free not too long after receiving it, and just as it was with the two pages I read on your site, each chapter pulled me in, until I was getting up in the middle of the night to read further. There was one evening, when I literally could not sleep from thinking about what was going to happen next.
Tom had last week off, and I thought it was a great idea to share Break Free with him, so even before I had finished it myself, I began reading it with Tom. It drew him in just like it did me. We’ve been married 38 years, and this is quite possibly the first book I’ve seen him stay interested in until the finish. He kept trying to guess what was going to happen next, and I just gleefully said, “there’s still lots more surprises”. It was fun reading it together.
Each page was filled with vivid word pictures of the surrounding country, and wildlife Kathleen, and her friends were in, and our emotions went right along with theirs, as each chapter surprised us.
Thank you so much for keeping it decent, and for being brave enough to have Kathleen pray in the name of Jesus!

Courtesy of Teens Read Too,
Eighteen and never been kissed. Basically, that’s Melena’s life in a nutshell. But hopefully this summer all that will change. Thus begins book one of the RUSSELL FAMILY SERIES by Kimberlee R. Mendoza.
Melena’s friend, April, drags her to a week long Church camp to get away from her mom and sister for a short time. There, Melena spies Dylan and is instantly smitten. But Melena is shy, and the week goes by without a word between the two. April finally takes matters into her own hands and walks over to Dylan and his friend, Chad, the last day of camp. Chad invites the two girls to go on the evening nature hike with the two of them, and friendships begin.
Dylan and Melena live at least an hour apart and the relationship seems doomed before it ever has a chance to bloom. Melena’s fourteen-year-old sister does everything she can to sabotage the budding romance. Always jealous of Melena, Cassi tries to steal Dylan and convince him that Melena has no feelings for him.
The book takes place over the course of the summer as Melena and Dylan try to overcome one misunderstanding after another. It finally takes a tragedy at the end of the story to bring all the characters together and working through all of the issues that have plagued them through the summer months.
Ms. Mendoza writes a sweet, simple, Christian love story. For those not used to a Christian bent to the romance, Ms. Mendoza is never preachy or abundant with the religious overtones. But they are evident and heartfelt. Melena tries to do right by God but the struggles with Dylan and her sister are real and ones that anyone with sibling rivalry can definitely relate to. The plot moves quickly and leaves the reader siding with Melena when conflicts arise with her sister, Cassi. Cassi is a spoiled troubled girl who, with the love and Christian kindness of her sister, may just overcome whatever pain is inside of her.

Fun, enjoyable read.,
I enjoyed this sweet romance. It was incredibly engaging for a young adult novel and I found it hard to put down. I loved that there was a lot of tension between the characters. It was also a powerful illustration of the sad reality of the damage divorce does to destroy trust in children and families.
Melena was a very like-able heroine and Dylan was the ultimate, hot hero. Cassie was the stereo-typical wicked sister and April was the true best friend. I enjoyed the dynamics between all the players and the emotion packed into this story. The spiritual element was also well done because the faith portion of the story flowed and didn’t seem forced. And of course, the fact that Dylan prayed made him even more hot. His only flaw was that he was a nice guy and had trouble saying no when he really needed to.
Overall, this was a great, fun read. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a romance where the relationship between the characters makes you giggle and want to have a slumber party with your girlfriends.

Can love survive a jealous sister?,
Eighteen-year-old Melena Rusell has her heart set on a date with fellow camper, Dylan Hart, but she’s too shy to even talk to him. Her best friend, April, takes matters into her own hands by hooking up a double date hike on the last day of camp. Melena and Dylan hit it off, but they live an hour away from each other. Melena is sure she’ll never see Dylan Hart again.
But Dylan is interested in Melena and doesn’t see the distance as a problem. The two continue to date, but as soon as Melena’s little sister, Cassi, sees Dylan, she sets her mind on stealing him. She doesn’t think Melena deserves a guy as great as Dylan, besides, Cassi always gets what she wants, and right now, Cassi wants Dylan. She resorts to some horrible antics to steal her sister’s boyfriend: manipulation, lies, and mean tricks.
Confused and heartbroken, Dylan and Melena struggle through their on again off again relationship, never sure what the other really feels. It takes a near disaster to bring out the truth, but with everything Cassi put them through, is it too late to make things work?
I found this story sweet and entertaining. Kimberlee R. Mendoza writes realistic characters in an all-too-realistic situation: sibling rivalry. Even though she doesn’t always succeed–especially when Cassi pushes her too far–Melena always tries to do the right thing, and manages to love her sister despite all the horrible things she does. I turns out that unconditional love is just the thing Cassi needs in her life. This is the first book in the Russell Family series. I’m looking forward to book two, Oh Brother, You’re Not My Keeper. Recommended.
